As part of an international collaboration, researchers from CIRAD and INRA revealed the presence of sequences of viruses of the family Caulimoviridae, including several new genera, in a large number of vascular plants, from lycopods to flowering plants. That presence proves their very ancient origins, some 320 million years ago. These results were published in the journal Scientific Reports on 12 January 2018.

En Afrique subsaharienne, l’ampleur du défi démographique impose d’anticiper les objectifs à atteindre à l’horizon de la prochaine génération, et ce dans tous les secteurs d’activité. Les chercheurs du Cirad et leurs partenaires proposent une méthode opérationnelle pour imaginer le futur et construire des stratégies locales de développement à destination, notamment, des décideurs locaux et des acteurs des territoires ruraux. Cette méthode de prospective territoriale combine un diagnostic des dynamiques locales passées, une projection de la population du territoire à 20 ans et un travail de prospective participative. Elle permet de réfléchir collectivement à des trajectoires durables et elle offre un cadre pour suivre et piloter l’action publique territoriale.

Fieldbrook Foods Corporation of Dunkirk NY has issued a voluntary recall of 20 cases of the Tops brand of Orange Cream Bars and 320 cases of the Meijer Purple Cow brand Orange Cream Bars due to the possibility that the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
