What role do farmers' groups play in developing technical systems? How do farmers share knowledge and experience within such groups? Following research in France with farmers' groups practising direct seeding, a researcher from CIRAD suggested conducting an analysis to look more closely at these questions. The results suggest that it is necessary to take account of all the stakeholders involved in technical change and, more generally, to reconsider the traditional dichotomy between professional knowledge and profane knowledge.
