For more than a decade now, CIRAD researchers have been studying the role of wild birds in the ecology of avian influenza transmission. This is vital work, at a time when some thirty cases of avian influenza caused by the H5N1, H5N9 and H5N2 viruses have been detected on farms in southwestern France in recent weeks.
