October 14, 2016 at 02:52PM Could sewage farm sludge be used to fertilize sugarcane plantations in Réunion?

CIRAD, in partnership with Veolia, has for three years been monitoring the agro-environmental impacts of using lime-treated, dried sludge from the Grand Prado sewage farm in Réunion (Sainte-Marie) as a fertilizer. This wide-ranging trial, which is unique in the french overseas regions, is planned to run for 20 years. The first results suggest that treated sludge may be suitable for the soils and sugarcane plantations of Réunion.
