In response to growing demands in both North and South to reduce pesticide use, a new project, Knomana, set out to identify plants that are already used for their pesticidal effects in Africa. The results are intended to support the development of organic farming in Africa, and to pinpoint the economic development potential of using such plants in the countries concerned. Knomana is being conducted under the umbrella of the INRA-CIRAD Glofoods metaprogramme.
