A vast study of household consumption in Africa has put paid to a few preconceived ideas. The study, which was the most wide-ranging ever, demonstrated the changes in food systems in recent decades. Local agriculture is conquering the domestic economy, with a dominant role in supplying both urban and rural inhabitants. Local diets are now more diversified, and energy intake issues are much less pressing than they used to be.
