Making women more independent is a major possible lever for food and nutritional security in sub-Saharan Africa. In some African regions, despite surplus cereal production, women’s lack of financial independence leads to chronic malnutrition in children. This will be illustrated in a session entitled “Hidden hunger: Produce more or empower more?” organized by CIRAD at the 2018 edition of European Development Days in Brussels. This year’s event, to be held on 5 and 6 June, is devoted to the role of women in development.
