Réunion Island imports hundreds of thousands of tonnes of agricultural inputs a year. At the other end of the chain, little use is made of the organic waste generated by farming and agrifood activities. The GABiR project, led by CIRAD, was launched in 2017 in the aim of closing the loop. As the project reaches the halfway stage, we look at its achievements in the light of the challenges faced: climate change, erosion of resources and soil pollution.
