Agroforestry cropping systems, highly productive hybrid coffee plants and a local value chain organized by interconnected stakeholders: these are the three pillars of the agroforestry cluster (AFS-Cluster*) concept developed by CIRAD. A pilot cluster created in 2016 produced the Nespresso “Nicaragua” pod. This organizational innovation of an agricultural sector seems to complement ecological and social certification systems and fair trade. The model will be presented at the World Congress on Agroforestry, from 20 to 22 May in Montpellier.
