CIRAD, in partnership with Veolia, has for three years been monitoring the agro-environmental impacts of using lime-treated, dried sludge from the Grand Prado sewage farm in Réunion (Sainte-Marie) as a fertilizer. This wide-ranging trial, which is unique in the french overseas regions, is planned to run for 20 years. The first results suggest that treated sludge may be suitable for the soils and sugarcane plantations of Réunion.

Le Cirad, en partenariat avec Veolia, mène, depuis 3 ans, un suivi des impacts agroenvironnementaux de l’épandage agricole des boues chaulées et séchées issues de la station d’épuration du Grand Prado, à l’île de la Réunion (Sainte-Marie). Cette expérimentation d’envergure et unique en outre-mer est programmée sur 20 ans. Les premiers résultats suggèrent que les boues traitées seraient adaptées aux sols et aux besoins de la canne à sucre à la Réunion.
