Agriculture has a crucial role to play in the face of climate change. Ahead of the talks scheduled during the 21st climate conference (COP21 – Paris 2015), CIRAD has made an active contribution, alongside INRA, to a Franco-Chinese conference on agro-ecology. The main topics chosen for cooperation are: carbon sequestration in the soil to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, and the use of genetic resources to adapt species to drought. Research practices common to France and China and specific to agro-ecology also emerged from the discussions: integrating local knowledge into innovation processes and the need for modelling.
