October 14, 2016 at 12:21PM Biodiversity losses reduce forest productivity

An international team of researchers from some 90 institutions, including CIRAD, has shown that diversity losses within the world’s forests reduces their productivity. As a result, their capacity to capture carbon, hence to mitigate climate change, is also reduced. Furthermore, the team’s results, which were published in the journal Science, put the economic value of that biodiversity at between 166 and 490 billion dollars per year.
