The Paris Agreement has just come into force. The signatory States have undertaken to restrict global warming to + 2°C. As COP22 begins, Thierry Brunelle, an economist with CIRAD, reminds us of the extent of this global challenge. Agriculture has a specific role to play in meeting the target set, in terms of reducing its emissions and capturing greenhouse gases. The 4 per 100 initiative, led by France, suggests storing carbon in agricultural soils.
