An article published in The Conversation deciphers the path and gradual erosion of crucial information about the relationship between deforestation and oil palm plantations. In particular, it shows that, contrary to what has been reported in the media, oil palm is not responsible for 40% but 2.3% of global deforestation. The three authors, researchers at CIRAD, thus highlight at what point in the chain and by what document a distortion of the facts appears, contributing to the use of inaccurate information.
